Reaction to The important things in life by Stephen

Ⅰ.Summary
A philosophy professor poured rocks into a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and students agreed the jar was full. Next he poured pebbles into the jar and the students agreed the jar was full. Finally, he poured sand into the jar and the students agreed the jar was full. He compares the rocks to your family, your partner, your health and your children, he compares the pebbles to your job, your house and your car and he compares the sand to everything else,the small stuff. This story points out that you will never have room for the things that are important to you if you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, and you should pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
ある哲学者の教授が授業で、とても大きなマヨネーズの瓶に岩石、小石、砂の順に入れ、それぞれの時にその瓶がいっぱいになっているか学生に尋ね、学生が、すべての時にそれに対して同意している。岩石は家族やパートナー、健康、子供など、重要なものを例えている。小石は、仕事や家や車などを例えている。砂はそのほかの取るに足らないことを例えている。この物語では、例えばあなたがもし取るに足らないような小さなことに時間とエネルギーを費やしていると、重要なことをのスペースがなくなってしまうから、あなたの幸福に重要な事々に注意を払うように指摘している。

2. Metaphor
The philosophy professor compares the rocks to your family, your partner, your health and your children, he compares the pebbles to your job, your house and your car and he compares the sand to everything else, the small stuff in this story.
この物語では、岩石を重要なこと、例えば家族、パートナー、健康、子供に例えており、小石を仕事や家や車に例えており、砂をそのほかの取るに足らないことを例えている。

3. Theme
This story's theme is that you should set your priorities and you should not mix the important things and the small things.
この物語のテーマは、あなた自身の優先順位をつけて、重要なことと、取るに足らないことをごちゃまぜにしないように気をつけろというものである。

Ⅲ. General opinion
I think that we often consider the small things of the big problem when we spend daily life, and we can't see the real imortant things.  I felt not falling into the trap is one of the ways  we can maybe make happy the people around us not only making happy ourselves.
私たちは、日常生活を送るにあたって、取るに足らないようなことをまるで大変な問題を抱えてしまったかのように考えて、本当に重要なことが見えなくなってしまうことが多々あると思う。この物語を読んで、そういう罠に陥らないことが、おそらく自分の人生ばかりじゃなく周りの人々も幸福にできる方法の一つなのだと感じた。
